New Tax Payment Deadlines Announced
The MIRA announced, on 15 June 2020, the commencement of services of the Taxpayer Service Centre from 5 July onwards, and new deadlines for filing tax returns and payment of taxes, and other fees and charges.
As per the announcement, the limited services will be provided by the Taxpayer Service Centre from 5 July 2020 onwards. Beginning from Sunday, 5 July, service counters will only collect non-tax payments, fees and other charges and from the second week onwards, for taxpayers who are not obliged to make mandatory online filing and tax payments can file their tax returns and make tax payments at the service counters.
Deadlines for the payment of land rent, fees and other charges which fell within the period government services were suspended, and deadlines which fall within the first two weeks following 5 July, has been set to 16 July. Taxpayers that have mandatory online tax filing and payment obligations that had tax return and payment deadlines which fell on or after 15 April 2020, or have a tax deadline which falls within the first three weeks from 5 July, has been set to 23 July. In addition to this, the deadline for the 2019 BPT Return and payment of tax has been set to 16 August, and the first interim payment under the Income Tax Act for 2020 has been set to 31 August.
The MIRA indicated that the deadlines in the announcement may be subject to change based on the provisions in the Public Health Emergency Bill, and any additional orders issued by the Health Protection Agency.
