Government announces that TGST payments can be made in Rufiyaa

The Ministry of Finance, on 16 June 2020, announced that Tourism Goods and Services Tax (Tourism GST) payments for taxable periods beginning from 1 April 2020 to 30 September 2020 can be paid in Maldivian Rufiyaa.

During the administrative concession period announced by the Ministry, Tourism sector businesses can pay Tourism GST in Maldivian Rufiyaa instead of United States Dollars. As stipulated in the announcement, this concession will only apply to taxable periods falling within the period from 1 April 2020 to 30 September 2020. This concession must be read with the announcement made by the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority on 15 June 2020, regarding new deadlines for taxable periods which fall within the period government services were suspended.
